Statement on Northwest Ordinance Investment
Republican Councilman Josh Turner lone ‘no’ vote; stakes-out position against New Albany businesses
NEW ALBANY, August 21, 2021 – Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey made the following statement following the New Albany City Council’s passage of an abatement supporting a $50 million expansion by Northwest Ordinance Distilling:
“Last night, the New Albany City Council took an important and bipartisan step to support a major $50 million business expansion bringing 50 high-paying jobs to our community. I commend Mayor Gahan and nearly every member of the City Council, Democrat and Republican, on making this economic development project a priority.”
“Unfortunately, in what should have been a unanimous vote, Republican Council member Josh Turner once again thumbed his nose against job creation. Voting ‘no’ to this proposal and for the second time against Northwest Ordinance’s investment in our city, he articulated a misguided economic development strategy that opposes not just this specific project, but the growth and expansion of all existing New Albany businesses. Turner’s policy is downright anti-New Albany, works to push business out of our city, and will only result in less opportunities for our community’s citizens. Our party is glad to see an overwhelming rejection of this scheme.”
