Republicans set to choose new auditor
Floyd County Republican Party has abysmal record of selecting inexperienced and unqualified candidates for public positions
NEW ALBANY, September 13, 2019 – Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey made the following statement regarding the resignation of Auditor Scott Clark:
“Once again Floyd County taxpayers find themselves the victim of failed Republican leadership with the resignation of beleaguered Auditor Scott Clark. Having created a fiscal mess with his fellow Republican officeholders, Clark leaves County government with financial penalties and fines, audit errors, and budget deficits.
“Unfortunately, while citizens might believe Clark’s resignation could signal hope for a renewed commitment to fiscal responsibility, the Republican Party’s record illustrates a clear pattern for selecting inexperienced and unqualified individuals. Last year they selected James Sinks – an individual without the credentials or certification to serve as County Assessor – to fill a ballot vacancy for that position. When it came time for him to take office, he was unable to be seated. This past May they selected Steve Burks – an individual without any medical or death investigation experience – as County Coroner over other, well qualified candidates including the deputies of the Coroners office. In July they selected Kelly Feiock – an individual with a history of failing to pay her own bills and a deep lack of understanding for the City Clerk’s office – to fill a ballot vacancy in that position.
“Enough is enough. Public service is not a game. Taxpayers deserve elected officials who are competent and experienced for public office. They deserve individuals ready to work full time for their community. Democrats continue to meet this test, but that’s not what Republicans are offering. Our citizens shouldn’t have to settle for less.”
