Democratic Party Announces Town Council Vacancy
Individuals invited to apply for the Georgetown Position
NEW ALBANY, October 7, 2019 – Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey announced that the party is accepting applications to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Joshua Cavanaugh from the Georgetown Council. Cavanaugh resigned on October 2, 2019, after moving out of the district. He has served in the position since 2015.
Georgetown is comprised of two precincts and, under Indiana law, those precinct committee persons will caucus to select a new Town Council member for the reminder of the term expiring December 31, 2019. The caucus will be held on Monday, October 14th at 5:00 p.m. at the Georgetown Optimist Club located 8260 State Road 64, Georgetown, IN 47122.
“Floyd County Democrats take the responsibility of filling this vacancy on the Town Council very seriously, and we are committed to selecting the best applicant for the position,” stated Dickey. “Our chief priority will be to select a candidate who is committed to and will meet the needs of the Georgetown Community.”
Interested candidates must file a declaration of candidacy (State Form CEB-5) and an application with the Party Chair by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11th. Applicants must be a resident of the Georgetown Council District #3 and at least 18 years old.
