Democratic Party Announces Educational Scholarship
Graduating High School Seniors in Floyd County Eligible to Apply
NEW ALBANY, April 1, 2019 – The Floyd County Democratic Party has announced it will offer an academic scholarship to graduating high school seniors attending post secondary education in 2019. Individuals interested in applying for the non-renewable $1,000 scholarship have until Friday, May 10, 2019, to submit an application.
“Our party has always been deeply committed to education,” stated Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey. “This scholarship is an extension of that commitment and a way our party members can help empower local students to continue their academic endeavors.”
The scholarship can be used for tuition, school fees, campus housing, books, or meal plans. The recipient will be announced at the end of May and will be recognized as part of the Party’s annual FDR Legacy Gala in June.
“Our hope is to grow this scholarship in future years, expanding both the number of opportunities available as well as the financial assistance offered,” added Dickey. “Through this and other opportunities in our party, we want students to appreciate the positive impacts they can make in their community.”
To be eligible for the scholarship, individuals must currently reside in Floyd County, have a Grade Point Average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and be accepted into a college, university, trade, or vocational school. As part of the application process, individuals must also complete a scholarship application, present two letters of recommendation, provide a high school transcript, and complete a two page essay.
Dickey also expressed gratitude for the party’s scholarship committee who worked to develop this new program.
“This opportunity wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our scholarship committee and the generous donations offered by our party partrons,” he said. “It is another example of the work Democrats undertake to make our community better.”
