Gahan endorsed by former Congressman Lee Hamilton

Hamilton praises Gahan for remarkable record and balanced budget

NEW ALBANY, October 31, 2019 – Former Indiana Congressman and 9/11 Commission Vice Chair Lee Hamilton has endorsed New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan for re-election. The announcement was made through a video statement release by the campaign.

“A good Mayor plays a tremendously important role in the community,” stated Hamilton. “I’ve known Mayor Jeff Gahan for years. He has a remarkable record and has balanced the budget in New Albany for seven straight years. He will continue to bring high-paying jobs to the community and invest in its infrastructure with improvements to our streets, parks and other public spaces. He’ll keep moving New Albany forward.”

Hamilton represented Indiana Ninth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1965 to 1999. He served as Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and as the Chairman of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. After leaving office, he served as Vice Chair of the 9/11 Commission and as an advisor to several governmental advisory boards. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 and founded the Center on Representative Government at Indiana University where he continues to serve as a Professor of Practice at the university.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Lee Hamilton, our distinguished Congressman from the Ninth District of over 30 years,” stated Mayor Jeff Gahan.  “I know many citizens of New Albany will agree with me that they don’t make them like Lee anymore,”

Party Chair Adam Dickey agreed with Gahan and added his own assessment.

“Representative Hamilton recognizes what many of us already know. Jeff Gahan is clearly the best, most qualified person to lead New Albany forward.
