State Representative and Democratic Caucus Chair Carey Hamilton to keynote Democratic Party Dinner
Annual event honors former U.S. Senator & Associate Justice Sherman Minton
NEW ALBANY, May 17, 2025 – The Floyd County Democratic Party has announced details for their 2025 Sherman Minton Dinner. The annual event honors former U.S. Senator and Supreme Court Justice Sherman Minton and will be held on Thursday, May 22nd at 6:00 p.m. at The Grand Theater, 138 E. Market Street, New Albany. The keynote speaker will be State Representative and House Democratic Caucus Chair Carey Hamilton.
“Our party is pleased to welcome Democratic Caucus Chair Carey Hamilton as our keynote speaker,” stated Party Chair Adam Dickey. “Carey is a tireless advocate for working and middle-class Hoosiers in the State Legislature and her message not only gives us an opportunity to reflect on the disappointing policies coming from Indianapolis, but also challenge our elected leaders to better serve the needs of our Indiana communities.”
With nearly 30 years of experience in the environmental field across public, private, and nonprofit sectors, Hamilton has held leadership roles including State House Democratic Caucus Chair, executive director of the Indiana Recycling Coalition and an executive in the climate tech industry.
“Hoosiers are seeing the misplaced priorities of the GOP in Washington and Indianapolis,” added Dickey. “Hoosiers are worried about their economic security, our children’s future, and the quality of life we’ll be able to enjoy. Our party is focused on coming together as a community, fostering a strong economy that works for everyone, and providing individuals the opportunity to achieve their dream. Our dinner will spotlight this choice.”
The party will also present the 2025 William C. Cochran Award at the dinner. Named in honor of former State Representative William Cochran, this annual honor is awarded to the recipient for his or her sustained contributions to the local party. Past recipients have included elected officials, former party leaders, precinct committee members, and activists. Last year’s award recipient was local attorney and Floyd County Election Board member Shane Gibson.
Those who are interested in attending the dinner can learn more by contacting Democratic Party Headquarters at 812-725-2020 or going online to http://bit.ly/Minton2025. Tickets for the event are $50 each or $400 for a table of eight.
