Statement on the Passing of Pat McLaughlin

Four -Term City Councilman passed after brief illness

NEW ALBANY, June 7, 2021 – Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey made the following statement in regard to the passing of City Council member Patrick McLaughlin:

“Words cannot express the heartache and loss I and other party leaders feel with the passing of our friend and City Councilman Pat McLaughlin. Pat, who since his election in 2007 had served as the 4th District representative on the New Albany City Council, was a remarkable individual known for his passion for this community.”

“Pat was a tireless champion for the City of New Albany and never stopped working to make it a better place. As a Council member, he played an instrumental part in leading efforts to improve and expand the New Albany Parks system, enhance the Ohio River Greenway, and develop the new City Hall. He fought for downtown redevelopment, infrastructure improvements, public safety funding, and played a critical role in guiding the city through the COVID-19 Pandemic. Most importantly, he served as a critical voice for his constituents, working to always be accessible to their needs and concerns, both big and small, even during his late illness.

“Elected to five consecutive terms as Council President, he bridged political divides and worked to find common ground with his fellow Council members and the administration. While he would have spirited disagreements on the merits of a political issue, he always respected his fellow elected officials and maintained a civility rare to politics today.

“Most important to Pat was the friendships he made and his love for his wife, Deanna, and his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time of grief and mourning.”

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
