Statement on initial passage of American Rescue Plan funds
New Albany City Council approves ordinance on first and second reading
NEW ALBANY, May 3, 2021 – Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey made the following statement following the New Albany City Council’s passage of a local ordinance appropriating American Rescue Plan funds:
“Tonight, the New Albany City Council took an important first step to advancing critical American Rescue Plan funds to public service. With passage of the local appropriation ordinance on first and second reading, this act is primed to fulfill the promise made by President Biden and Congress to help individuals and local businesses struggling against the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and build our communities back better following this unprecedented disaster.
“Make no mistake, this is a rescue plan. Ensuring these funds are expeditiously put to public use is essential and I applaud the council’s efforts to commit to a clean ordinance free of unnecessary red tape in administering these funds.”
The City Council will take a final vote of the approval of the ordinance at the next City Council meeting on May 20th.
