Democrats present unified slate for 2020 election

Party focused on serving Floyd County’s citizens

NEW ALBANY, February 7, 2020 – The Floyd County Democratic Party Chair Adam Dickey made the following statement regarding today’s filing deadline:

“Today we are pleased to stand unified behind a new generation of leaders ready to tackle Floyd County’s tough challenges. Anchored by proven incumbents, such as Superior Court III Judge Maria Granger and County Council Members Leslie Knable and Brad Striegel, the Democratic ticket includes a broad array of business owners, educators, professional service practitioners, and blue-collar workers. It reflects both the diversity of our party as well as the diversity of our community with candidates of varying backgrounds, age, faith, racial and ethnic identity.

“Our Democratic candidates are the most qualified and ready to serve on day one in office. They bring impressive experience with several having served on government boards or in public positions. Our candidates have deep roots in our community having served as civic volunteers, neighborhood leaders, military service members, youth mentors, and coaches. The average age of our candidates is 46 years old and our ticket features several young leaders running for the first time.

“Our party is again blessed with an impressive percentage of women stepping up to serve in key positions. Half of the Democratic candidates running this election cycle are women. That compares to only six (6) female candidates (23%) on the local Republican ticket.

“Most importantly, each of our candidates are driven by a desire to move our community forward, to listen to the needs and concerns of their neighbors, and work to find solutions together.  Service. Community. Leadership. These are the principles that guide our local Democratic Party and our Democratic candidates. We look forward to illustrating this difference as part of the 2020 election cycle.”
