Party takes measures to safeguard against Coronavirus

This week has been a stark reminder of the challenges our nation and the world face in combating the spread of the Coronavirus. With public health experts recommending a halt to non-essential public events to help control the spread of the virus and maintain our public health system, our local party has begun to adjust our schedule and activities to meet this need. Effective immediately, we'll be undertaking the following changes to scheduled events and other activites:

Rescheduled or Cancelled:

The Erica Lawrence for State Representative Campaign Kick-off event, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, will be rescheduled for later in the campaign cycle. Individuals interested in her campaign are encouraged to volunteer by clicking here. You can also contribute to her campaign at: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/electerica

Democrats After Dark, our social mixer scheduled for March 26, will be cancelled for the month. The next scheduled social will be held on May 21, 2020 @ 7:00 p.m.

Modified:

Game Night, our family fun fundraiser, scheduled on Tuesday, March 31, will be modified to be a virtual event. Individuals will be asked to participate from home with their families using online reporting. Look for more information on this event to be announced this weekend.

Pending:

The Stonewall Democrats' Scholarship Brunch scheduled for April 4 is under review for postponement. A final announcement on the status of the event is expected in the next week.

The Democratic Women's Caucus Quarterly Meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 9 at the Breakwater Apartments (411 E. Spring Street, New Albany) is under review for rescheduling. A final announcement on the status of the event is expected in the next two weeks.

Scheduled:

The Indiana Democratic African American Caucus - Southern Indiana Chapter's Power of the Black Vote event scheduled for April 4 at Preservation Station (100 Preservation Place, Jeffersonville) is still scheduled at this time.

The FCDP Sherman Minton Dinner, our annual signature fundraising dinner, is still currently scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 at the New Albany Grand Theater (138 E. Market Street, New Albany). If the dangers of the Coronavirus persist into April, the Party will consider the necessity of rescheduling this event.

Other Recommendations on Campaign Activities

In addition, we are also recommending that our candidates conduct voter outreach via telephone or through online engagement over the course of the next two weeks. This will help ensure not only the safety of our volunteers, but also individuals at risk who may otherwise be limiting their social interactions. This recommendation is consistent with guidance release by the Indiana Democratic Party earlier today.

We also recommend that voters strongly consider the use of Absentee By Mail voting for the May 5th Primary Election. An absentee application can be found online here and printed and returned to the Floyd County Clerk's Office or requested by contacting Democratic Party Headquarters at 812-725-2020.
